Stage 1 Remapping
Stage 1 Remapping in Chester
A Stage 1 remap is the single most popular job we do, and for good reason. It is a custom software map for an otherwise standard car, no mechanical work needed, that frees up the power and torque most manufacturers leave locked away. Most people feel the sharper throttle and stronger mid-range pull straight away.

What a Stage 1 remap actually does
Every engine leaves the factory with a safety margin and a one-map-fits-all setup that has to suit every market, fuel quality and climate on earth. That caution leaves real performance sat on the table. A Stage 1 remap rewrites the ECU's fuelling, boost and timing to suit your car properly, which is why the same engine can feel like a noticeably stronger one afterwards.
On most turbocharged cars, petrol or diesel, you get a solid lift in both power and torque. Day to day, the bigger change is usually the extra torque lower down the rev range. Overtaking, pulling away from junctions and motorway cruising all get easier, and you often find yourself changing gear less.
Will it suit your car?
Turbocharged engines respond best, and that covers most modern diesels and a lot of petrols. Naturally aspirated engines gain less, and if yours is one where a remap is not worth the money, we will say so. We would rather give you a straight answer than take payment for a job that leaves you underwhelmed.
Every map we write is specific to your exact make, model and engine, then checked on the road. We do not flash a generic file and wave you off.
Is it safe and reliable?
Done properly, a Stage 1 map stays inside the mechanical limits of your engine and gearbox. That is the whole reason for tuning each car individually rather than pushing a one-size file at it. Kept up with sensible servicing and decent fuel, a well-mapped car runs happily for years.
If you ever want it gone, we can put the car back to its original factory map at any time. Nothing about it is permanent.
Common questions
Will a remap affect my warranty?
It can, so it is worth knowing where you stand. Manufacturer warranties can be affected by tuning, though in practice how that plays out depends on the car, the dealer and what has failed. If your car is under warranty, talk to us first and we will give you an honest view. We can also return the car to standard whenever you need.
Will it still pass an MOT?
Yes. A Stage 1 remap does not affect the MOT. Your emissions equipment stays in place and working, and the car is tested exactly as normal.
Can you put it back to standard?
Yes, at any time. We save your original map and can flash it back so the car is exactly as it left the factory. See our back to stock service.
How long does it take?
Most Stage 1 remaps are done the same day, often within an hour or two once we have the car. We will confirm timing when you book in.
